(New York, NY Date, TK 2012) nonradioMusic Studio-Lab Projects in association with Black Art In America presents"Traveling Rhythms, Blues and Exaggerated Tales": "Malcolm on My Mind," "Modern Day Tragedy of Purvis Young," and the "Resistance" series by Najee Dorsey — a live multimedia event that combines music, visual art, spoken-word and that celebrates legend and cultural folklore. The first event in this series will be held on May 25th, 2012 at the Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in New York City.

Billed as a bold and emotional visual exploration of Malcolm X and his times, "Malcolm on My Mind" is a multimedia experience; transporting audiences back to the silent influences that greatly impacted one of the most brilliant minds of the Civil Rights era. Exploring the time-line of his lifespan from 1925 to 1965, the program delves into the social and historical backdrops that helped to both inspire and shape the vision of Malcolm X’s journey. Events highlighted from the year of his birth 1925 include Marian Anderson’s recording of “Nobody Knows The Trouble I’ve Seen,” the Ku Klux Klan’s march on Washington and Josephine Baker’s migration to Paris to escape racism and discrimination in America.

The "Modern Day Tragedy of Purvis Young and Overtown (Video Short) with Art Exhibit: The Last Works of Master Painter Purvis Young" celebrates the art and legacy of street painter Purvis Young. After rising from obscurity, Young enjoyed international fame. The artist made his Overtown, Miami, Florida — a vibrant black historical community — and the town’s slow deterioration, the subject matter of many of his influential paintings. In the end, Young died in obscurity at the age of 67. Learn more about the true story of this talented visionary through his poignant final works.

Partially inspired by the Occupy Movement, Najee Dorsey’s mixed media series "Resistance," pays homage to the myriad of methods that individuals have used their voices and bodies to fight against the power structure. Art renditions featured include Haitian Freedom Fighter Toussaint L’Overture, a Native American man bearing arms and an ode to unsung hero Claudette Colvin. By using protest signs, digital media and multiple colored mixed media, Dorsey both thematically tells stories and aesthetically conveys commentary on the current economic and social condition in America.

"Traveling Rhythms, Blues and Exaggerated Tales" was written by RM Crews, Derin Young. Visual imagery produced by RM Crews and Najee Dorsey. Music supervision by Derin Young featuring a live a music performance by dei7 free range music. Spoken word by Tantra Zawadi. Series narration by Daryl Foster.
